Sources say that Vodafone and Airtel would quote identical prices for both 8GB and the 16GB version of the iPhone 3G which is going to be launched in India in August 22, 2008. The media have quoted an “official price” between Rs 30,000 and Rs 36,000 for the iPhone 3G, but I guess the price has not yet be disclosed by the officials.

On TechTree it was said that, Airtel has seen around 2.5 million inquiries over the iPhone 3G, since announcement. Out of which, about 1 million inquiries have been made over the Internet. Airtel expects a 30% conversion rate over these numbers, which is not too shabby.

What left us really depressed was that there is no clarity on when 3G would launch in India. Our source, an executive with a major carrier, lamented that the Indian government has issued no guidance on when the 3G spectrum bids would start, when they would end, and when the actual allocations would be made. The babus seems to be sitting on their behinds, as is usual.

Anyways, let me get back to the topic.

It was Vodafone to launch the iPhone 3G in the month of August, but it’s now Airtel too. I got the news stating that Bharti Airtel has scheduled to launch the iPhone 3G on August 22, 2008 here in India. Pricing details have not yet been released but would keep you updated if I am

“iPhone has been the iconic technology revelation of this year. Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector. Introducing iPhone 3G to India further underscores our commitment to enrich the communication experience of all Airtel users.”

As said by Sanjay Kapoor, the president of Mobile Services at Bharti Airtel.

The customers going with Airtel will be able to purchase the iPhone 3G at Airtel Relationship Centers. Also, Airtel customers can get more information and book their iPhone 3G here.

P.S Also got the news that Vodafone would be launching it on the same day. <!--

Well, you might not be aware of this word Cuil. Cuil an Irish words which basically means knowledge and is pronounced as “Cool”. Cuil is a search engine launched on the 28th of July, 2008 by the alumna/ex-employees of Google Inc. (No! it has nothing to do with Google) The Cuil developers say that Cuil is the world’s biggest search engine existing. It also claims to have a larger index than any other search engine, with about 120 billion web pages. Ummm sounds interesting…

The founders of Cuil are;

Anna Patterson,

Russell Power and

Louis Monier.

And here’s something they have to say;

The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.

Looks like Cuil is gonna be a strong challenger to Google, Yahoo and of course Mircosoft.

Well, let’s see what happens. Till then, let’s start Cuiling or Googling or… forget! Let’s start searching! that sounds better..!

Following a strong share price rally on Monday in his three group companies — India’s most valued firm Reliance Industries, Reliance Petroleum and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd — the net worth of Mukesh Ambani rose to $63.2 billion (Rs 2,49,108 crore).

In comparison, the net worth of both Gates and Slim is estimated to be slightly lower at around $62.29 billion each, with Slim leading among the two by a narrow margin.

Warren Buffett, earlier the third richest in the world, also dropped one position with a net worth of about $56 billion.

Ambani’s wealth of about Rs 2,49,000 crore includes about Rs 2,10,000 crore from RIL (50.98 per cent stake), Rs 37,500 crore from RPL (37.5 per cent) and Rs 2,100 crore from RIIL (46.23 per cent).

Slim’s wealth has been calculated on the basis of his stake in companies like America Movil (30 per cent), Carso Global (82 per cent), Grupo Carso (75 per cent), Inbursa (67 per cent), IDEAL (30 per cent) and Saks Inc (10 per cent).

According to information available with the US and Mexican stock exchanges where these companies are listed, Slim currently holds shares worth a total of $62.2993 billion, with more than half coming from Latin American mobile major America Movil. Slim is closely followed by Gates with a net worth of $62.29 billion currently.
