Akshaya Patra – Free Food Program

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is the largest non-profit organisation in the world to implement the school meal programme. What started in Bangalore 10 years ago as a pilot programme has now expanded to 18 locations across 8 states in India to feed over 1.2 million children today.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation (TAPF) is a public, charitable, secular Trust, registered in Bangalore. The Board of Trustees comprise missionaries of ISKCON Bangalore, corporate professionals, and entrepreneurs.

His Excellency Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India on his visit to the Akshaya Patra Foundation at Bangalore  in June 2003 said, “This really is a very important mission and I congratulate the Akshaya Patra Foundation for the excellent work they have done.”

A middle class person’s meal per day might cost around Rs. 300, but it takes Rs. 525 ($11.50 approximately) to feed a child for a full school year. That certainly makes a huge difference. Nearly 13.5 million children across India are out of school and into child labour in order to earn that single daily meal.

“No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.”

Together WE can prevent this. Together WE can help these children by gifting them with this mid-day meal and also help them with their education.Your contribution will mean the difference between poverty and prosperity.

You can be a part of this cause and help the needy ones by donating generous amount and bring a smile on their face. If you’re willing to donate then please visit http://www.akshayapatra.org/online-donations and do the needful. You will definitely be proud of yourself.
